Citroen DS3 convertible on the way

Citroen will manufacture a convertible version of its fashionable DS3 supermini, a source has revealed.

However, facts of the DS3 Convertible are vague. It isn't clear whether Citroen will use a metal folding roof or a fabric roof. In addition, it’s uncertain if the DS3 Convertible will have the same engine line-up as the hatch, which consists of three petrol's and two turbo-diesel engines.

Citroen has confirmed that there won't be a convertible variant of the DS3 Racing. The hot hatch is due to go on sale in the UK later on this Summer.

Prices for the DS3 Convertible have yet to be announced, but expect to pay around £2,000 over the hatchback, which would mean a starting price of roughly £14,000.

2011 Hyundai Genesis facelift spied

Hyundai is wasting no time revising the Genesis mid-sized executive sedan. Spied testing in Death Valley, CA and somewhere in South Korea, the 2011 Genesis will take on some minor changes . The Genesis has only been on sale for 2 years – it was launched as a 2009MY in mid 2008.

Numerous alterations will be apparent like reshaped front bumper with new lower air intakes, LED day-time running lights, front/side/rear skirts, rear chrome trim, and revised rear bumper incorporating faux Lexus LS like dual exhausts.

Internally, very little change is visible, with the exception of a BMW-like iDrive system. This is likely to operate a new 8 speed automatic transmission, recently announced by Hyundai. Under the hood, the 290bhp 3.8 litre V6 Lambda and 385bhp 4.6 litre V8 Tau engines will be improved for better fuel economy and power. For 2011, an all-new 5.0 litre V8 will debut, which is expected to generate 429bhp. The new V8 will also be used in the larger Equus sedan. It is probable that Hyundai will also use their new GDI (gasoline direct-injection) engines.

The facelifted Genesis will go on sale in Australia mid-2011.

On the basis of this vehicle would be a G37 Infiniti / Nissan 370 Z, which we think wouldn't a lame idea in the least, given the excellent treatment of the characteristics of these two cousins. Moreover, the name of the Alps would be the one to carry a sport-Renault. You know the name of decades ago, when she used to build the winning racing cars using Renault engines. Although WCF reported on such a car a few weeks ago, it's very much a rumour. Until now.

A good Renault sports car we suspect would use a relatively small turbo engine instead of a large block V6 for obvious reasons; weight, compactness, emissions and a possible return of the turbo in Formula One. The car will not be based on an existing cars of Renault and will be very different, even radical in styling. Renault desperately needs for its many millions of euros involvement in the F1 and so far so good as RenaultSport is, it hasn't happened to the desired extent.

Two years after the unveiling of the fuel cell powered FCX concept at the Tokyo Motor Show, Honda today showed the production version of the car that will be available next summer, along with a name and price. The car now known as the FCX Clarity will be available for private customers from mid-2008 for a period of three years rent. The $ 600/month price tag will cover all maintenance and collision insurance. Unlike GM's Project ramp program, Honda made it clear that engineers are not following these cars around. People will be able to arrive at a Honda dealer, sign the papers and drive. At least, if they live in southern California. Initially, the cars will only be available for customers in the areas where hydrogen filling stations are available. The production version remains faithful to the concept with the only real change on the nose, which was stretched a few inches to provide a number crush space. The range on a full tank of compressed hydrogen to 5000 psi remains at 270 miles and the vertical power fuel cells can start at temperatures of-22F. [Source: Honda]

Maserati CEO spills info on next-generation Quattroporte

The next-generation Quattroporte sedan will be available with four-wheel drive and stop-start technology, according to Maserati’s CEO.

Harald Wester said the new sports saloon, scheduled for 2012, would also weigh about 15% less than the existing model and fuel consumption and CO2 emissions would be improved by approximately 25%.

Wester claims that adding four-wheel drive will help Maserati's flagship model compete with Mercedes, Audi and BMW.

Other methods in the pipeline include economised V6 and V8 petrol engines, in addition to an 8 speed ZF automatic gearbox.

Sky-high fuel prices recommended (UK)

Prices of fuels should be kept permanently high as a way of forcing drivers into smaller and more economical cars, according to the Government’s climate change watchdog.

The Committee for Climate Change has warned that the Government should set a minimum price for petrol and diesel, to make sure Britain meets its targets for emissions reductions.

“We know that people buy more efficient cars if the petrol price remains consistently high,” said the committee’s chief executive David Kennedy.

In its report to parliament, the Committee said that fuel duty needed to be greater than before to balance out reductions in oil prices and there should be a greater gap between the cost of tax on the most and least polluting cars, with drivers of the most fuel efficient cars also qualifying for grants.

AA president Edmund King described the committee’s plans as “unrealistic”.

“People are already moving to more fuel efficient cars so there is no need to punish them by keeping the cost of fuel excessively high," he said.

No more Government funding for motor industry (UK)

Business secretary Vince Cable has said that car makers can no longer expect financial support to make cars in the UK.

Speaking at a conference in Central London, he said: “I don’t see the future as large scale funding for particular companies. We can’t fight a subsidy war.”

Cable persisted that he saw future Government money going towards assisting the car business as a whole, vowed support for investment in research, technical education, more apprenticeships in the motor industry and appeal to inward investment through lowering corporation tax and creating a more stable economy.

The business secretary also denied that the £5,000 funding for anyone buying an electric car was going to be scrapped, admitting that it was still “actively under consideration”. He also promised support for Britain’s luxury car business arguing, “We’re not trying to turn every car into a Nissan Leaf”. “There’s variety in the motor industry and it needs to be supported,’ he said.

While, a car-buying scheme, such as the scrappage scheme is not the way to invigorate the car market, business secretary Vince Cable has said.

'It got us out of a sensitive stage in the economic crisis, but it was too expensive to run. We are emerging from a period of Government intervention. We are now in a different world. The Government can't fight and win a subsidy war.'

Cable said: 'The best way to back the car industry is to create a good business environment. The Government will continue to back industry in a cost effective way.''

ALPINA – a name famous in Europe and the wider world for putting a particular performance accent on BMWs, though not yet so well-known in North America. BMW – a name famous all over the world for motor vehicles of performance, quality, luxury and safety.
The two companies, both at home in the German state of Bavaria, have a long history of working together to produce special BMW automobiles. Burkard Bovensiepen, son of the founder of ALPINA Business Machines and an enthusastic racing driver/engineer, began his automotive career path in 1961 by developing a dual-carburetor setup for the just-introduced BMW 1500 sedan. It was a predictive beginning: to take an already fine-performing BMW (which also just happened to be a practical sedan) and making it perform even better.

By 1964, BMW had officially recognized ALPINA’s contribution to BMW performance. Not long thereafter, Burkard Bovensiepen founded the ALPINA company – ALPINA Burkard Bovensiepen KG – that continues today, creating special versions of BMW automobiles that offer a particular brand of performance for discriminating auto enthusiasts. Yet outside the circle of dedicated BMW enthusiasts, ALPINA has kept a low profile in North America. In addition to racing versions of BMWs, ALPINA has developed a progression of BMW-based cars based on 3, 5, 6, 8, Z4 and Z8 models and offered them on a limited-production basis. ALPINA is located in the small Bavarian city of Buchloe, some 50 miles southwest of Munich, BMW’s headquarters city and the capital of Bavaria.

Range Rover pushing for Sport hybrid

JLR are pushing for a hybrid RR Sport. Jaguar Land Rover is making good progress on the technology, with more than 100 engineers devoted to development.

“Hybrid is an expensive [engineering] investment and an expensive piece cost, so the focus has to be on larger vehicles,” said Land Rover boss Phil Popham.

Progress is focused on the Range Rover Sport, a hybrid version of which is being currently tested. Targets include a range of 20 miles and top speed of 50mph in electric-only mode, and CO2 emissions of less than 100g/km combined, but Land Rover’s hybrids boss Peter Riching said, “Our projections are that it will be a lot less than that.”

The new technology - which includes an 8 speed ZF gearbox with integrated electric motor and no torque converter, plus a 160 litre lithium ion battery pack - adds around 200kg to the vehicle. But new weight savings actually result in a lower kerb weight.

KIA Picanto amp; Cee39;d recalled (UK)

Kia UK is recalling 486 Cee'd models for checks on the brakes, along with 6,585 Picanto city-cars because of a potential fuel leak.

Kia has also revealed that the fuel filler on its Picanto could become damaged by de-icing fluids. It says a small number of fuel leaks have been reported. Cars built between November 2009 - February 2010 are affected.

Cars are a one-time investment for most people, and since it is a big investment, price plays a very important role when choosing a car. Most people have a budget limit for indulging on a new car. Manufacturers change the prices of cars quite often, depending on the market conditions, competition, demand and supply factors, introduction of newer models, and many other factors. Hence, obtaining up-to-date information about the prices of new cars is a very important part of car shopping.

There are many brands of cars in the market today. The model of the car, the make, the year of manufacture, the brand, the manufacturer, and various other factors determine the price. Cars may be classified by the price range: economy, mid-range, premium, luxury, exotic; by manufacturer: Audi, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Daewoo, Ford, Honda, GMC, Hyundai, Homer, Infiniti, Jaguar, Jeep, Kia, Land Rover, Lexus, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercedes Benz, Mercury, Mini, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Plymouth, Pontiac, Porsche, Saab, Saturn, Scion, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota, Volkswagen or Volvo; by market segment: crossover, diesel, hybrid, performance, high-performance; or by body styles: SUVs, sedans, coupes, convertibles, luxury vehicles, crossovers, sport, wagons, vans, or trucks. Prices of new cars range from $10,000 to $75,000 and over. New cars are mostly cars made in the years 2005 and 2006 only. Cars manufactured before that are generally not available new.

New cars are usually bought through the dealers who make some changes to the price, like giving certain discounts or adding some taxes over the manufacturer's price. Sometimes, manufacturers give certain discounts to the dealers, which are passed on to the customers. The price quote can be obtained from a dealer by specifying the year, make, and model of the car. Prices may vary in each state. New car prices can also be explored over the Internet, where most dealers have websites along with pictures of the cars and even attractive deals and finance options. Price quotes can also be obtained by filling in some information with the simple click of a button. These websites are a great way to compare deals and prices of new cars.

Volkswagen considering Passat CC wagon

Volkswagen's range expansion could include an estate version of its Passat CC, according to sources in Germany.

Since the next-generation Passat will not be sold in the U.S and its replacement, the New Midsize Sedan, will not offer a station wagon variant - a CC wagon would fill a useful niche in a region where it’s selling well.

VW's board is expected to vote in September on whether to build the car or not.
