T-98 Kombat

Having blogged about many performance cars which are beautiful, costly and fast, i have decided to blog on something else for a change. And this time round, it'll be on the topic of safety and off-road.

T-98 Kombat
I have always wanted to be in a safe car. Who doesn't? But some cars, are taken to the extreme. There are many safety tests a car has to go through, for example, having a head on collision into an object, being side swiped by a large trunk, being struck by lightning, going up a 33.3% slope hill which is very steep and even wind tests to ensure that nothing breaks and flies off during a journey.

However, the T-98 takes it to a whole new level. Not only is it a 4 wheel drive off road car, it is also an armoured car. Mainly used to protect VIPs, celebrities, etc.

Although this car is an off-roader, and is rather fast for such a heavy car at almost 5 tonnes, it's interior is not compromised. It has electrical outputs and large comfortable seats. It even contains a satellite navigation which not really many cars have at the moment. The more extreme feature would be that it even includes a flat-screen television which can play DVD and also as a climate control interior containing leather seats and polished wood.

Despite having all these luxurious functions which sports cars such as the Bugatti, Ferrari, Lamborghini would seldom or never have, it has an incredible safety feature. Not the normal kind where cars are rammed into walls, but instead, this car is being tested by firing rounds of ammunition at its windows and doors.

Its price however, isn't that cheap. It starts at around US$138,000 and rises as the features you request for. For example, at US$138,000, it is bullet proof against a 357 magnum, and at $168,000, it is bullet proof against a 7.62mm Kalashnikov.

At the moment, i have never seen this car anywhere is Singapore, neither do i think anyone owns it. Even if someone does own it, i doubt it will be allowed on the roads of Singapore. Having such a car in Singapore would also unnecessary. But still, its is such a cool car. I wouldn't mind having one. It would definitely come in handy in times of emergency and it would make me feel so safe to be in one of these... ...though no one is allowed to even own a gun in Singapore. Therefore, maybe having such a car in areas such as America or Russia would be more sensible, therefore, it is usually being sold in those areas. In Singapore, if you still want to have a bullet proof car, maybe a more sensible choice would be a Mercedes custom made car. The ride would definitely be better and it wouldn't catch so much attention.

The 2012 new Ferrari 458 spider unveiled

Ferrari458 Spider,Ferrari,Ferrari-carsNew technical solutions adopted for the chassis guarantee identical levels of structural rigidity with the roof up or down. The result is a car that is truly exciting to drive, blending extreme performance with the responsiveness that has always characterised Ferrari’s open-top berlinettas. Entirely in aluminium, the hard-top solution adopted for the 458 Spider offers a number of advantages over the traditional folding soft-top, including a reduction of 25 kg in weight and a deployment time of just 14 seconds. Fully integrated into the styling of the car, the hard-top was engineered to fit neatly ahead of the engine bay without compromising aerodynamics or the performance of the car. The small space needed to house the roof enables the designers to include a generous rear bench for luggage behind the seats.

The new 2012 Ferrari 458 Spider, the world’s first mid-rear engined berlinetta, equipped with a retractable hard top has debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The new 458 Spider joins the 458 Italia, widening the range of Ferrari’s mid-rear engined V8s and offering the same uncompromising technological solutions, handling and performance in a refined open-top configuration. It is equipped with a Ferrari patented, fully retractable hard top, a world first for a sports car with this lay-out. The 458 Spider is powered by Ferrari’s naturally-aspirated, direct-injection 4.5 litre V8 which was nominated as the 2011 International Engine of the Year for its engineering excellence in terms of driveability, performance, economy and refinement. The power is transferred to the road by Ferrari’s class-leading dual-clutch F1 paddle-shift transmission through the sophisticated E-Diff, itself integrated with the F1-Trac traction control and high-performance ABS for maximum handling dynamics.
Certain of the car’s features, such as its accelerator pedal mapping and the damping of the multilink suspension, have been calibrated to guarantee maximum sportiness and absolute driving pleasure with the top down, in line with Maranello’s exclusive spider tradition. Even the engine soundtrack has been honed to ensure that the car’s occupants are completely captivated by the drop-top driving experience.
The rear of the car is characterised by innovative forms with the buttresses designed to optimise the flow of air to the engine intakes and the clutch and gearbox oil radiators.
For maximum comfort whilst driving top down the 458 Spider features a generouslysized adjustable electric wind stop. The design was perfected to slow and diffuse the air in the cockpit, enabling normal conversation to be held even at speeds over 200 km/h.
We give you glimpse of the technical specifications of the Ferrari 458 Spider for your reference.

All-New 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG Revealed Ahead of Frankfurt Show

Mercedes-Benz SLK 55, 2012

The most powerful version of Mercedes-Benz's small hardtop roadster, the 2012 SLK 55 AMG, will receive its world premiere at this year's edition of the Frankfurt Motor Show in mid-September, but the first photos of the V8-powered model have already sprung up on the German car site Autobild.
Visually, the AMG treatment adds a new aero kit with bespoke parts up front and at the back along with a smoked out lights and larger set of light alloy wheels finished in black. Inside, you'll find a pair of sports seats and plenty of surfaces covered in stitched leather
And while this is the first time we get to see the new SLK 55 AMG in the flesh and without camouflage, Mercedes-Benz recently shared details on the roadster model's mechanical hardware.
Power for the roadster comes from a new naturally-aspirated AMG 5.5-liter V8 engine that delivers 62 more horses and 30Nm more torque than the previous model's eight-cylinder unit, at 422-horses and 540Nm in European-spec, and 415-horses at 6,800 rpm and 398 lb-ft at 4,500 rpm in North American-flavor.
The aluminum V8 engine also features the AMG Cylinder Management system that can shut off four-cylinders from 800 to 3,600 rpm to improve fuel efficiency.
A 7-speed AMG Speedshift automatic transmission featuring three modes (sport, manual and efficiency) transfers power to the rear wheels.
According to the Mercedes, the new SLK 55 AMG completes the standard 0-100km/h (62mph) sprint in 4.6 seconds and reaches an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h (155mph).
The roadster returns a combined fuel consumption of 8.5 lt/100 km, which is 3.5lt or 30% less than that of the preceding model with the 360HP V8.

Toyota unveil EV racing prototype

Toyota EV racer
Toyota has released new details about their attempt to set an electric vehicle speed record at the Nürburgring on August 29th.

Seen here for the first time, the unnamed racing prototype has a 41.5 kWh lithium-ceramic battery which powers two electric motors that produce 381 PS (280 kW / 375 hp) and 800 Nm (590 Nm) of torque. This setup will enable the 970 kg (2,138 lb) sports car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 260 km/h (162 mph).

If everything goes according to plan, Toyota will be beat the current EV record of 9 minutes and 1.338 seconds which was set by the Peugeot EX1 concept.
